Applying for a Director ID Number (DIN)

Step 1:

If you already have a MyGovID, skip to step 2. Otherwise, you’ll need to set up your MyGovID: instructions can be found here, or by searching "set up MyGov ID" in Google.

If you struggle to verify your identity, call the ATO on 1300 287 539 (select option for myGovID enquiries).

Step 2:

Gather the relevant documents that you will need on hand to prove your identification during the DIN set up, including:

    • your tax file number (TFN)

    • your residential address as held by the ATO

    • information from two documents to verify your identity, which can be:

      • an ATO notice of assessment

      • super account details

      • a dividend statement

      • a Centrelink payment summary

      • a PAYG payment summary (this is different to your income statement, and/or your PAYG instalment activity statement).

Step 3:

Log in using your MyGovID and complete the application. The link to log in using MyGovID and further instructions for this step can be found here (click the button at Step 3.) The screenshots below will guide you through the step by step process of this stage.
